If you like to listen to classical music while reading I have linked 2 songs that match my interpretation of the story for you to follow along with :) Just let them play through, it doesn't matter where they start or end.

For the next two weeks I was bedridden, I would have my bandages changed daily, take medication and pain killers once every 6 hours and be checked on twice a day by Levi. I had recovered enough to spend my time doing reports while sitting in bed, which I continued to do all day every day; I still had a job to do. I had a few people visit me every so often to wish me well; it was nice to think that so many of them cared enough to drop by and see how I was doing.

When all the reports from the last expedition were finished I was transferred from the Infirmary to my own room where I’d stay until I could walk again. It was hard recovering, and lonely; as much as I wanted to see Levi I forced him away from me, I told him not to waste so much time babysitting me, and that he should be doing his work; so he only visited once during the day and once after dark to say goodnight. I could tell he missed seeing me, he seemed happier every time he came to visit but underneath his charade I could tell it hurt him so much to be spending less and less time with me.

I couldn’t let myself fall for him any more than I had already done so, and while I was in such a vulnerable state I had to avoid taking everything I was given. Although I was pushing him away he kept pushing back; every morning I would wake to find a new, beautiful red rose sitting in the vase on my nightstand.

It had been a week since I had woken up to find myself safely back inside the walls, and now, I was sitting up in bed, gazing out my window with my favourite book resting in my hands. I heard a knock at the door as Erwin let himself in; in my state anyone was welcome to just open my door without asking.

“(f/n), how are you feeling today?” His cheery grin still made me feel involuntarily happy; a displeased smile appeared on my face.

“I’m fine as usual, what do you want?” He had no reason just to drop by randomly to see how I was doing.

He pulled out an envelope from the inside of his jacket and handed it to me as he sat down in the chair beside my bed. “This is a list of signatures from every soldier in the Survey Corps.”

I didn’t bother to open it after hearing that.

“Why would I want this?”

He just gave me a smirk and looked down at the envelope. “Just open it, and find out for yourself.”

I rolled my eyes and opened it up, unfolding the paper inside. As my eyes read the title and quickly browsed over the hundreds of names I felt as if I could slam Erwin up against a wall again.

“It’s a petition… to throw a party in my honor?” My eyes narrowed and darkened as my dry words fell out.

“Yes and all the soldiers of the Survey Corps have signed it.”

For a moment I just glared at him blankly. “Did you start this?” I bluntly blamed him.

“Uh, no, do you remember the five cadets that stood up out of the crowd on that training day a couple weeks ago?” He gently took the petition from me and put it back in the envelope. “They wanted to thank you, and now the whole army does too.”

“What do they want to thank me for, exactly?”

“Leading the last expedition… and surviving it as well.”

I paused and silence fell over the room. “That’s not a very good reason for a party.”

Erwin sighed, “You gave them courage just by being out there with them, and when Levi brought you back it made them overwhelmingly happy. You’re their hero, and you’re still here for them.”

It was nice to think of it that way, but to keep my stance on the subject all I did was shrug.

Erwin rolled his eyes, “It doesn’t matter, when you're completely recovered we’ll be throwing the party whether you like it or not.” He smiled cheekily. “-And you will be there.”

With that he stood up to leave, dropping the envelope on my nightstand. I sighed as the door closed; I knew I was recovering and quick, the party would be soon if he found out I was better so I planned on not telling him for as long as possible.

Parties are fun if I’m the only person invited, the dress code is nonexistent and it occurs in my bedroom. The sort of party Erwin was talking about involved dresses, make up and my least favourite part…
…Dancing.

I couldn’t dance, I didn’t want to dance, and who the hell would even want to dance with me?

I was overthinking the situation. If anything, to avoid dancing I could just find myself a seat and refuse to move; or I could sneak out 5 minutes after arriving.

Plus, I didn’t even have a dress to wear; well at least not one that was fancy enough. A couple girls had come to visit me an hour after Erwin left to discuss the party, and apparently everyone was saving up their gold to go buy suits and formal dresses, just for me and my party.

Maybe this was some elaborate plan to make me less depressed; after all my happiness was disappearing fast and a party would never bring it back. Maybe, just maybe, if my nightmares would stop haunting me I could be happy again, but I doubted it heavily.

Just as I was bringing my favourite book back into view I heard another knock at the door. I sighed heavily and raised my voice, “What now?”

As the door creaked open I peeked over the top of my book to see a rather disheveled Corporal standing in my doorway. My sour mood faded as he approached me and sat down on the side of my bed.

“Who’s been bothering you today?” His gentle words made me forget about what I was thinking.

I scoffed, “Everyone.” I slammed my book shut in frustration and put it aside. I rubbed my tired eyes and pinched the bridge between my eyes.

I heard Levi ‘Tch’ and when I looked back to him he was staring into my eyes. “Am I bothering you, too?”

My expression softened. “Of course not...” I paused and quickly grabbed the envelope Erwin had left behind. I pulled out the list of signatures and names of soldiers who agreed that there should be a party thrown in my honor. Browsing quickly through the names I clicked my tongue and smiled back at Levi. His signature was the most noticeable of the lot. “Now, you’re bothering me.”

Suddenly Levi had a slightly more worried look to his gorgeous grey eyes, maybe he thought I was serious; I had to reassure him it wasn’t as horrible as he might think.

I cleared my throat. “Why would you of all people want to put me through the hell of having a party?” I flicked the page towards him and when he looked down to see where he had signed he just laughed lightly.

“You deserve it.” I gave him a glare suggesting I didn’t believe him for a second. “You do.” He reassured me he was serious but I still couldn’t believe that he would want to attend such an event; no matter how much he cared about me.

“I’m not going.” That was my only answer.

He chuckled and blinked slowly at me. “Will I have to drag you along?”

“You won’t have to, because you won’t be able to find me.”

“You’re going to hide, just because you don’t want to go to a party?” I nodded while shrugging and he just chuckled at me. He knew I was getting better and that I should be walking in no time; he knew the party would be happening soon.

When Levi stood up to return to his work he chuckled quietly and looked back at me. “I’m 100% sure that I will see you there, General.”

Just as he began to walk away I cleared my throat to catch his attention.

He corrected himself. “(f/n).”

I smiled and waved. “Good bye Levi.”

It did only take about a week before I began to find my feet, slowly but surely I practiced standing up from my bed. It hurt so much but soon enough I found myself standing and even slowly walking. I wouldn’t have let Erwin know about my recovery but he eventually caught me in the act and so in a couple days’ time he would have the party organized.

Even if I could walk, I couldn’t do it very well. Whoever I was walking with would usually have to catch me before I fell over. I tried my very best to walk everywhere to strengthen my legs back to how they used to be. They were still scarring over and so no matter how much I wanted to painfully walk around I would have to rest soon after.

Levi was so happy to see me walking around again but he could see it in my eyes whenever he saw me that I was in an unbelievable amount of pain. Whenever I walked somewhere with him he would let me put my arm over his shoulders and he would take the weight off my legs. I could tell it hurt him to see me in pain, he’d always give me this look to tell me he didn’t like how hard I was pushing myself, but I’d keep going and he’d be forced to help me. I almost liked it, how much he had to babysit me and how much he cared about my well-being, but it was merely a friendly thing to do and I wouldn’t allow it to be any other way.

I found myself sitting in the mess hall sipping my tea when a whole group of girls came screaming past the hall. Each one of them held a large, colourful box; a few of them were pulling the contents out of their own boxes when I realized what it was. They had gone dress shopping, and had returned successful. Only then did I realize that I hadn’t yet bought a dress for myself, even though I still hadn’t decided if I was going to attend or not.

Quickly I decided to return to my quarters, I stood up shakily and hobbled along slowly until I finally reached my destination. Sitting down at my desk I pulled out a blank piece of paper and found my pen and ink. Instead of limping to the dress shops and picking from millions of dresses I decided to draw up my own design instead. I measured myself and wrote down all the details necessary for a tailor to understand what I wanted. When the drawing was finished I folded the pieces of paper and put them in an envelope, sealing it with a wax stamp.

As soon as Erwin entered my office I was handing the letter over to him, he didn’t say a word but took the letter from my hands.

“If you really want me to attend that stupid party then you better deliver this to the best tailor within the walls.” A grin lit up on his face as he saluted strongly and left without saying a word.

I supported my weight with my arms as I stood up out of my chair and slowly made my way into my room. I swung open my wardrobe doors and sat down on the floor; thankfully I already owned a pair of shoes to match the dress. As I held them in my hands, staring down at them, I found it hard to decide whether I should even wear them while I’m in this condition. They were medium heeled shoes that flickered with a beautiful glossy blue shine. They were gorgeous and I had secretly dreamed that I might wear them one day; I never thought the day would come.

For a moment I just sat there admiring their craftsmanship when Levi quietly stepped into my room. He glared down at me on the floor and questioned why I hadn’t noticed him yet before speaking up.

“(f/n), what are you-”

I threw the shoes back into my wardrobe, not wanting him to see them. Angrily startled I growled at him, “What the hell do you think you’re doing?” He stepped back, alarmed by my outburst. I closed the wardrobe doors and went to stand up but couldn’t find the strength in my legs; Levi must have noticed because he walked over to me and briskly picked me up off the floor. I held my hands on his chest to keep myself balanced, only then did I realize how close we were both to each other. I looked up to see his glowing grey eyes staring down into mine and for a second I could have sworn he was about to kiss me.

“What were you doing sitting on the ground?”

I hurried my words to cover my tracks. “None of your business, that’s what.” The corners of his lips pulled up by the slightest.

He helped me over to my bed where I exhaustedly collapsed; I was sitting at the end of it when he pushed a strand of hair behind my ear. His hand froze as it passed my cheek, it was like he was fighting himself over cupping my cheek or not. I looked up at him and we proceeded to have a rather awkward but delightful staring competition; It wasn’t until we both blinked at the same time that he stepped back and removed his hand from the side of my face.

He casually returned to his usual nonchalant composure.

“You should get some rest, (f/n).” And that was all he said as he quickly left my room, closing the door behind him.

I sighed heavily and threw myself backwards to lie down on my bed with only my legs hanging off. I felt that feeling in my stomach again and I swear I could have punched myself right there and then.

How could I stop having feelings for him if he kept doing things like that to me?
Woooooooh part 9, how exciting :)
